About Wicked

Wicked takes the world of The Wizard of Oz and asks what happened before the story everyone already knows. It follows a clever, green-skinned outsider and the popular girl she is forced to share a room with, and it traces how one of them ends up called wicked and the other ends up called good. It works as a prequel, but it stands perfectly well on its own, and you do not need to have seen the film to follow it.

The score is what brings people back a second and third time. It is written for two very demanding voices, and the evening rises or falls on the pair playing those roles. Long-running productions rotate their leads, and alternates cover some performances, so the cast on any particular night is not guaranteed by the date on your ticket. Understudies in a show at this level are experienced and frequently excellent, but if seeing a particular performer is the reason you are going, check the current casting before you commit.

For seating, this is a show built on full-stage pictures: large ensemble numbers, big scenic moments, choreography that uses the whole width. That kind of staging reads better from slightly back and slightly above than from the first few rows, which is why the front of the upper tier is often better value than the rear of the stalls. Seats far to the side and deep towards the stage are the ones most likely to lose part of the picture behind the arch.

It runs around two hours and forty-five minutes including an interval. It has a family reputation and generally suits children old enough to manage a long sit, though the second act is noticeably darker than the first and the staging includes loud passages and sudden effects.

Frequently asked questions

How much do Wicked tickets cost?

On PickStub, Wicked tickets currently start at $31. Across the 751 upcoming dates, the typical cheapest ticket is $110. Prices are live and change as listings sell.

Where can I find the cheapest Wicked tickets?

The lowest price right now is for Wicked on October 31, 2026 at Citizens Bank Opera House, Boston, from $31.

Are Wicked ticket prices going up?

Prices have held steady: over the last 30 days, the cheapest ticket for a typical Wicked date has barely moved.

Do I need to know The Wizard of Oz first?

No. Wicked is set before that story and explains everything it needs to as it goes. Knowing the film adds some recognition and a few jokes, but the show stands on its own.

Is the cast I booked for guaranteed?

No. Long-running productions rotate their leads and schedule alternates for some performances, so casting is never guaranteed by your ticket date. If a particular performer is the reason for your visit, check current casting before booking.

Which seats suit this show best?

It is staged on full-stage pictures and large ensemble numbers, which read well from slightly back and slightly elevated. The front of the upper tier is often better value than the rear of the stalls. Deep side seats can lose part of the stage.

Is it suitable for children?

Generally yes, for children old enough to sit through a long show. The second act is darker than the first and includes loud passages and sudden effects, which can be a lot for very young children.
