Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden guide

Madison Square Garden sits above Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan and is home to the Knicks and the Rangers, as well as a long list of concerts, boxing nights and college basketball. The current building opened in 1968, the fourth to carry the name, and a major renovation completed in the 2010s rebuilt the interior while keeping the round shape.

For basketball the arena holds roughly 19,800. The lower bowl puts you close to the court and is priced accordingly. The 200 level in the upper bowl gives a good overall view at lower prices, and the corners of the upper bowl are often the best value. Suspended above the court along both sides are the Chase Bridges, seating walkways with a high, direct view down onto the action.

Because the building is round, end seats in the upper levels are further from the court than in a rectangular arena. The difference in comfort between levels is less than in older arenas: the renovation added wider concourses and better sightlines throughout.

Getting there could hardly be easier. Penn Station below the arena connects to several subway lines, Long Island Rail Road, NJ Transit and Amtrak, and many other lines stop within a few blocks. Driving into Midtown is slow and parking is expensive. PickStub is an independent marketplace and is not affiliated with Madison Square Garden or any team that plays there.
