Estadio Santiago Bernabéu

Estadio Santiago Bernabéu guide

The Santiago Bernabéu, on the Paseo de la Castellana in the north of central Madrid, has been Real Madrid's home since 1947. A long renovation transformed it into one of the most modern stadiums in the world, with a retractable roof, a steel exterior skin, a 360-degree video screen and a pitch that can be stored beneath the stands so the building can host concerts and other events. It holds over 80,000.

The stands are very tall and very steep. The lower tiers along the sides are the most expensive and the closest to play. The upper tiers give a complete view but are high, and the top rows are a long climb above the pitch. Seats behind the goals are cheaper; the south end behind one goal is where the organised home support stands.

Because the roof can close, weather matters less than it once did, though Madrid summers are hot and winter evenings are cold. Spanish league matches often kick off late in the evening, so check the time before planning travel. The stadium's tour and museum are popular, and on non-match days it is one of the most visited sites in the city.

The Santiago Bernabéu Métro station on line 10 is at the stadium, and several bus routes run along the Castellana. Driving is not recommended; there is little parking and roads around the stadium close on matchdays. PickStub is an independent marketplace and is not affiliated with the stadium or any club that plays there.
