About Pittsburgh Pirates

PNC Park is small, and that is its whole argument. It holds fewer people than almost any other park in the league, which means the upper deck is genuinely close to the field rather than a distant shelf, and a cheap seat here is closer to the game than a mid-priced seat at a larger stadium. If you care about proximity per unit of money, this is the best-value building in baseball.

The other reason people rate it is the view. The park faces back across the Allegheny River at the downtown skyline and the bridges, so the outfield opens onto the city rather than onto a wall of seating. Seats behind home plate and on the first base side look straight into it, and the effect is strongest at evening games as the light goes.

Getting there is part of the appeal. The bridge nearest the park closes to traffic on game days and becomes a pedestrian route, so walking across from downtown is the standard way in, and the local rail line runs a stop on the north shore. Driving is possible and unnecessary.

Being in the north of the country, the season starts cold. April games on the river are genuinely uncomfortable without proper layers, and late September nights are no better. Mid-summer is the reliably pleasant window.

The club's results have been inconsistent over recent decades, and it is worth being honest that many people come for the ballpark as much as the team, which keeps ticket prices among the more accessible in the league. Roughly three hours is the usual length. PickStub is an independent marketplace and is not affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates, with Major League Baseball, or with PNC Park.
