About Manchester City FC

The Etihad Stadium was built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and converted for football afterwards, which is why it sits inside a wider sports campus in east Manchester rather than a residential street. Successive expansions have added third tiers at both ends and lifted capacity well past 50,000, so the ground is now among the largest club stadiums in England.

That size matters for buyers. More seats reach general sale here than at most of the other leading English clubs, and lower-profile league matches are among the more accessible top-flight fixtures in the country. The Manchester derby against United, title-deciding matches and the knockout rounds of European competition are the exceptions, and prices for those move sharply.

The stands form a continuous bowl, and the sightlines are clean from almost everywhere. The lower tier is close and fairly shallow. The third tiers are high and steep, which gives a full tactical view at the cost of distance. For most people the middle tier along the touchline is the best balance of the two.

Getting there is easy by tram. The Etihad Campus stop on the Metrolink sits next to the stadium, and the walk from Manchester Piccadilly station takes around twenty-five minutes. There is matchday parking on the campus, which fills early and empties slowly.
