About Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodger Stadium is the largest ballpark in baseball by seating capacity and one of the oldest still in use, built into a hillside in Chavez Ravine rather than dropped into a street grid. That setting produces the view the park is known for, out past the outfield to the hills and the San Gabriel Mountains beyond, and it produces the park's main practical problem in equal measure.

That problem is getting in and out. The stadium is surrounded by its own parking lots on terraced levels and is not served by rail in the way most modern parks are, so traffic converges on a small number of access roads before first pitch and leaves through them afterwards. Locals treat arriving early and leaving before the ninth inning as normal behaviour, which is why the park empties visibly in the late innings even in close games. If you are not driving, shuttle services from downtown exist and are worth investigating before the day.

The seating bowl is tiered in distinct levels that are entered from different elevations of the hillside, which is unusual: your ticket level determines which gate and which parking terrace you want, and correcting a mistake means a long walk uphill. Check the level on your ticket before choosing where to park.

Baseball in Los Angeles is warm and dry in the day and cooler than visitors expect after sunset, especially in spring and late in the season. Games start in daylight and finish in the dark, so a layer is worth carrying even in summer.

Most people drive, and the parking lots are terraced around the stadium on a hillside. There is no direct rail service in the way most modern parks have, so shuttle services from downtown are worth looking into before the day.

Why does my ticket level matter for parking?

The bowl is built into a hillside and its levels are entered from different elevations, so your seating level determines which gate and parking terrace you want. Getting it wrong means a long uphill walk.

Why does everyone leave early?

Traffic. The stadium funnels onto a small number of access roads, so leaving before the last inning is normal local behaviour. It is a choice between seeing the end and getting out quickly.

Do I need a jacket?

Usually yes for a night game. Los Angeles cools noticeably after sunset, and games that start in daylight finish in the dark.
