About Hadestown

Hadestown began life as a folk album and grew into a stage musical, which is why it sounds unlike almost anything around it. The band plays on stage throughout, the arrangements lean on New Orleans jazz and American folk, and the result sits closer to a concert with a story running through it than to a traditional book musical.

It braids two myths together: Orpheus following Eurydice down into the underworld, and the older, colder marriage of Hades and Persephone that shapes the seasons above. The audience is told early how it ends, and the show is explicit that the story gets told again anyway. That framing is the emotional engine of the piece rather than a spoiler.

Because the musicians share the stage and most of the staging happens on a single turntable set, hearing well matters as much as seeing well. Central seats suit it, and it rewards proximity more than a spectacle musical would, since much of its effect is intimate rather than scenic. Distance costs you more here than it would at a show built on large scenic effects.

It runs around two hours and thirty minutes with an interval. The tone is adult but not explicit, and it plays well for teenagers, particularly anyone who comes to it through the music rather than through the theatre.

On PickStub, Hadestown tickets currently start at $37. Across the 316 upcoming dates, the typical cheapest ticket is $49. Prices are live and change as listings sell.

Where can I find the cheapest Hadestown tickets?

The lowest price right now is for Hadestown on October 24, 2026 at Lyric Theatre, London, from $37.

Are Hadestown ticket prices going up?

Prices have held steady: over the last 30 days, the cheapest ticket for a typical Hadestown date has barely moved.

Do I need to know the myths beforehand?

No. The show tells you what happens, including how it ends, very early on. Knowing the myths adds resonance but the piece is built to work without them.

What does it sound like?

Folk and New Orleans jazz rather than traditional musical theatre. The band is on stage throughout, and the piece sits closer to a staged concert than to a conventional book musical.

Which seats suit it best?

Central seats, and closer than you would need for a spectacle show. Much of the effect is intimate and musical rather than scenic, so hearing clearly matters as much as seeing the full stage.

Is it suitable for teenagers?

Yes. The tone is adult but not explicit, and it tends to land particularly well with anyone who arrives through the music.
