About Formula 1

A Formula 1 Grand Prix is a weekend, not an afternoon. Track action usually opens with practice sessions, builds to a qualifying session that sets the starting order, and finishes with the race itself. Some rounds add a sprint, a short standalone race that shifts qualifying earlier in the weekend, and a handful of events run on a compressed schedule that starts and ends a day early.

That structure is why tickets come in so many shapes. A single-day ticket admits you for one day only. A weekend pass covers consecutive days and is the usual choice for anyone travelling in, since it takes in qualifying as well as the race. Read the day named on the listing rather than assuming, because the busiest and most expensive day is almost always the one with the race on it.

Where you sit changes the sport you watch. A grandstand seat is numbered and fixed, and each one trades something off: a straight gives you top speed and a clear run down to a braking zone, a slow corner gives you cars turning in close, and a pit straight gives you starts, pit stops and the podium. General admission is unreserved and usually spread across banking and viewing mounds around the circuit, which means you can move between vantage points across the day but claim nothing in particular, and popular spots fill early. Most circuits mount large screens so you can follow the parts of the lap you cannot see, though coverage varies by venue.

A few things hold true almost everywhere. Circuits are large and much of the walking is on grass, gravel and temporary decking, so the distance from gate to seat is longer than it looks on a map. Cars at full throttle are genuinely loud and ear protection is worth carrying. Support races, pit lane walks and fan events fill the gaps between sessions, so a day at a Grand Prix runs long even when the headline session is short.

Are Formula 1 ticket prices going up?

Prices have held steady: over the last 30 days, the cheapest ticket for a typical Formula 1 date has barely moved.

What is the difference between a single-day ticket and a weekend pass?

A single-day ticket admits you on the day it names and nothing else. A weekend pass covers consecutive days of the same event, typically including qualifying and the race. Check the day printed on the listing before you buy, since a Friday ticket does not get you in on Sunday.

Which day is the actual race?

At most Grands Prix the race is the final day of the weekend, with practice and qualifying on the days before it. A small number of events run a compressed schedule, so use the date and session shown on the listing rather than assuming.

What does general admission mean at a Grand Prix?

General admission is unreserved access to designated viewing areas around the circuit, usually grass banking and mounds rather than seats. You can move around during the day, but you are not assigned a spot and the best ones fill up early.

How do I choose between grandstands?

Each location shows you a different part of the sport. Straights and braking zones give you speed and overtaking, slow corners give you close, slower car control, and pit straight seats take in the start, the pit stops and the podium. Most circuits also run big screens for the rest of the lap.

Is PickStub affiliated with Formula 1?

No. PickStub is an independent marketplace with no affiliation to the championship, its teams, or the circuits. Every order is covered by the PickStub buyer guarantee.
