About Wicked

Wicked takes the world of The Wizard of Oz and asks what happened before the story everyone already knows. It follows a clever, green-skinned outsider and the popular girl she is forced to share a room with, and it traces how one of them ends up called wicked and the other ends up called good. It works as a prequel, but it stands perfectly well on its own, and you do not need to have seen the film to follow it.

The score is what brings people back a second and third time. It is written for two very demanding voices, and the evening rises or falls on the pair playing those roles. Long-running productions rotate their leads, and alternates cover some performances, so the cast on any particular night is not guaranteed by the date on your ticket. Understudies in a show at this level are experienced and frequently excellent, but if seeing a particular performer is the reason you are going, check the current casting before you commit.

For seating, this is a show built on full-stage pictures: large ensemble numbers, big scenic moments, choreography that uses the whole width.
