About MLB Postseason

Postseason baseball is sold before anyone knows whether the games will be played. The format is a series of best-of rounds, so a series listed as best-of-seven may end in four games, and games five, six and seven exist on the schedule as possibilities rather than fixtures. Tickets for those games are sold as conditional: if the series ends before that game is needed, the game is never played and the ticket is refunded.

That is the single most important thing to understand here. A ticket to a potential game is a real ticket to a game that may not happen, and the refund is the mechanism that resolves it. Plan travel and accommodation accordingly, because a hotel booking does not refund itself when a series ends in a sweep.

Home field is also decided by results rather than by schedule. Which team hosts which game in a series depends on seeding and on how earlier rounds finish, and in some rounds the venue itself is not settled until the preceding round is over. A listing tied to a specific venue and date is the reliable thing; assumptions about who will be playing there are not.

Once you are in the building, postseason baseball differs from the regular season in atmosphere more than in mechanics. Crowds are larger, louder and arrive earlier, security lines are longer, and start times move to suit national broadcasters, which pushes weekday games later into the evening than the regular season habit. Stadium bag policies are typically enforced more strictly than usual.

Prices in the secondary market move with results in a way they never do during the regular season, since elimination changes the value of every remaining game overnight. PickStub is an independent marketplace and is not affiliated with Major League Baseball, with any club, or with the stadiums hosting these games.

Do I know which teams will play?

Not always. Matchups and home field depend on seeding and on how earlier rounds finish, and in some rounds the venue is not settled until the previous round ends. The date and venue on the listing are the reliable part.

Are start times the same as the regular season?

No. Postseason start times are set to suit national broadcasts and often land later in the evening than regular season habit, especially on weekdays.

Is anything different at the stadium?

Bigger crowds, earlier arrivals, longer security lines and stricter enforcement of bag policies than a regular season game. Allow more time than you normally would.
