Old Trafford has been the club's home since 1910 and holds around 74,000, which makes it the largest club football ground in the United Kingdom. Its age shows in places: the roof of the older stands has a lower profile than modern stadiums and parts of the concourses are tight. Its size shows in the noise when it is full, and in the fact that tickets for most matches are more available than at smaller grounds.
The Stretford End behind one goal is the traditional home of the loudest support. The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand opposite the main stand is the largest, with three tiers, and its upper levels give the most complete view of the pitch. The East and West Stands sit behind the goals, and the corners between them were filled in to complete the bowl.
Because some roof sections sit low, a handful of rear seats in the lower tiers have a shallow view of high balls. The seating map does not show the overhang, so if the full view matters, the upper tiers along the touchline are the safer choice. Demand peaks for the Manchester derby, matches against Liverpool and the later rounds of European competition.
The Metrolink tram stop named Old Trafford, shared with the cricket ground, is a ten-minute walk away, and Wharfside on another line is closer on the other side. Some matchdays also see trains to a small station beside the South Stand. Parking around the ground is mostly private lots that charge on matchdays.
