London guide

London's live calendar is broad enough that a single visit rarely covers one scene. West End theaters, arena concerts, stadium football and outdoor summer shows all run in parallel, so the ticket you buy first tends to decide the shape of the trip.

The West End cluster around Leicester Square and Covent Garden holds long-running musicals and plays in houses such as the Adelphi Theatre, the Lyceum Theatre and the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Larger music and comedy dates land at Alexandra Palace, Eventim Apollo and Abba Arena, while football fills Emirates Stadium, London Stadium, Craven Cottage and Loftus Road, and the NFL brings its own dates to the city.

A trip built around one evening show leaves the daytime free, and that is usually the better plan. Book the ticket first, then choose a hotel within walking distance of the theater or a short underground ride from the arena, because late-night transport is the part people underestimate.

The city is served by an extensive underground and rail network, and most major venues sit close to a station. Allow extra time on match days and on evenings when several venues finish at once, since the streets around the West End and the big arenas become crowded.

Weather is mild but changeable, so a light layer and a compact umbrella are worth carrying whatever the forecast says. Plan the trip around one anchor event, keep a second evening flexible, and buy theater tickets early for weekend performances.

Frequently asked questions

What kinds of events can I see in London?

West End musicals and plays, arena concerts, club shows, football and NFL games, tennis and athletics all appear on the calendar. Most visitors build a trip around one theater or arena night.

How early should I arrive for a West End show?

Aim for 30 to 45 minutes before curtain so you can clear the doors, find your seat and settle. Weekend performances and holiday periods are busier, so add a little extra time.

Is it easy to get around London on an event night?

The underground and rail network reaches most major venues, and walking covers the West End cluster. Allow extra time when several theaters and arenas empty at the same hour.

Where should I stay for a London theater trip?

Hotels around Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Soho put most West End houses within walking distance. For arena shows, choose a room near a direct underground line instead.

Does PickStub sell official London theater tickets?

PickStub is an independent marketplace. It is not affiliated with the venues, producers or teams whose dates appear on the site, and tickets come from sellers rather than box offices.
